Media: video

Add video with the Video screen: paste a link from YouTube or Vimeo, upload your own file, or record one with Loom. You can also enforce full completion.

You add video to a course using the Video screen. You can paste a link from YouTube, Vimeo, or elsewhere, upload your own video file, or record one with Loom. The Video screen displays video responsively across devices, and you can require learners to watch the whole thing before moving on. As a guide, keep videos to around 6 minutes, since that's roughly where attention drops off.

  1. In a course, select + Add screen and choose Video.
  2. Select Edit video and remove the placeholder.
  3. Paste your video URL (for example a YouTube or Vimeo link).

If you'd like text alongside the video, switch on the description field from the visibility (eye) menu.

Upload your own video

  1. Add a Video screen, then select Replace video.
  2. Drag and drop your file, or browse to select it.
  3. The video uploads, then converts into several formats so it plays in every browser, which can take a few minutes.

The maximum file size for a video upload is 1GB. If your file is larger, compress it below that before uploading.

Record a video with Loom

You can record a video with Loom and add it to your course without leaving Coassemble, which is handy for quick, personal explainers.

Enforce video completion

If learners must watch a full video before continuing, turn on enforce completion:

  1. On the Video screen, select Enforce completion and toggle it on.
  2. A lock replaces the navigation arrow until the learner has watched the whole video.

Enforce completion works with uploaded videos and with Vimeo or YouTube links. For uploaded videos, Coassemble also stores progress, so learners can return to a long video and pick up where they left off. Progress isn't stored for Vimeo or YouTube videos.
